I'm looking at used Ford Explorers as a possible new (used) car and would like to know whether, based even on anecdotal evidence, the value of the last round of models/styling drops greater than would otherwise be expected when a new model is roled out. Example I have in mind: 2002-2010 Explorers have consistent styling, while the 2011 represents a fairly significant aesthetic departure from the existing models.
Thanks!|||Absolutely. A redesign almost always hurts the value of the previous generation. There are rare instances in which the previous gen has a following and remains sought-after -- i.e. the Scion xB "toaster" vs the newer milk wagon.|||No It is not affected by introduction of newer variants or upgrades! However if the present model or variant is expected to be phased out the value drops.
