What is a better used car value?

I am looking at an 04-07 Chevy Equinox or Trailblazer with 30,000-50,000 miles on it. Looking for any feedback based on price, reliability, safety, etc. for those model years.|||like sophie said, unless you go offroading or haul a bunch of stuff go with the equinox.|||I would go with the Trailblazer. It is spacious, rugged, and pretty reliable. If you are looking for a good price - I would suggest checking out GovernmentAuctions.org They have a large list of government surplus SUVs that are in excellent condition with low mileage. It's worth checking out especially since lots of surplus cars are American made SUVs that the Government or gov organizations have used for a limited time.|||Reliability - Depends on the owner, not the car. If the owner treats the car well, the car will last. If they don't, it won't.

As far as value, you're perfectly able to go on KBB.com or Nada.com and look up the values.

Safety - Depends on what you do with it. You can have a perfectly rated vehicle, get hit by an 18-wheeler, and die. So safety is almost 100% relative. A perfect roll-crash rating doesn't prevent fluke accidents, or drunk drivers, or any of the 1,000s of other things that cause injury.

So attempting to compare the safety of one vehicle to the next, is pretty ridiculous.|||The Equinox, Pontiac Torrent, Saturn VUE, and Suzuki LN-7 are basically the same car...

The four cylinder engine is GMs perennial soldier, timing chain instead of belt, and pretty well bullet-proof , anemic with the automatic, but the VUE and Suzuki are the only ones available with a stick

The V6 is a Honda engine, not as reliable as the four, but available with awd.automatic only..

Do not buy any of the above older than 2005 with automatic, 2004s had the VTI trans, later models hydramatic...vti was junk....

The Trailblazer is an S-10 pickup, with an SUV body looks like a truck, rides like a truck, is a truck...

If you're going off-road go with the trailblazer.....
